2024 NCAA D3 Softball Regionals Tracker: Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of the 2024 Division III Softball Tournament! We've got a full slate of games for you, starting within the next two hours. This is truly the best time of the year, as everything is on the line and 62 teams enter today with a chance. Seeding aside, everyone has a chance to win it all. The goals that they took the field with in the fall months are right in front of them. For some, just reaching the NCAA Tournament is a feat in and of itself. Take Simmons for example. The Sharks went just 9-8 in GNAC play, and were the #3 seed out of the North Division entering the league tournament. They kept their season alive with a tournament-opening 11-inning win over #2 seed (North) Emmanuel, then got past the South's top seed, LaSell, twice, to advance to a Best-of-3 for the title with Saint Joseph's (ME), the #1 seed out of the North. Simmons dropped the first one, but with its back against the wall, won the final two, claiming the GNAC title. And now they find themselves in Marshall, in a regional with a pair of Top 10 teams in ETBU and Texas Lutheran. On the other end of the spectrum, defending national champ Trine heads into this tournament with a real chance of going back-to-back, and they know it. The national championships are in Marshall, Texas again, giving the Thunder a chance to win it all in the Lone Star State once again. ETBU might have something to say about that though, as the Tigers are looking for the rare opportunity to play for a national title on their home turf...all that stands in the way is a tough regional, and an even tougher super regional after that. It won't be easy, but the Tigers have been a Top 5 team for much of the year. They enter regionals ranked No. 2 in the nation. Don't forget about Linfield, either. The Cats are hosting Redlands in a Best-of-5 series in McMinnville, Oregon, this weekend, and have an unblemished 43-0 record to defend. There's so many more storylines to talk about, and we'll note these throughout the day. But first, there's softball to be played. We'll have updates, with notes and scores, all day on this page. Be sure to stay tuned. You can find the full bracket here on NCAA.com.
